On Saturday, Karnataka CM H D Kumaraswamy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a plea of releasing Rs. 2064.30 crore funds as a relief to drought-hit farmers in the ongoing Rabi season, reported PTI.

The Karnataka CM H D Kumaraswamy, requested PM Narendra Modi to release funds under the NDRF(National Disaster Response Force) and MGNREGA(Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) for drought mitigation, material component and wage component to Karnataka.

100 out of 176 Talukas (Tehsils) in Karnataka are drought effected.

Also, it is reported that Kumaraswamy tweeted that central government’s assistance of Rs 949 crore has been approved against a memorandum which sought financial assistance of Rs 2,434 crore as per NDRF/SDRF norms.

Also added,  that the crop loss during kharif and rabi season together was Rs 32,335 crore.

H D Kumaraswamy said that the state has released a fund of Rs 386 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund(SDRF) and given priority to ensure drinking water and fodder, along with creating 1.19 crore man-days jobs under the MGNREGA scheme.

The Karnataka CM said that the relief funds released to Karnataka for the drought faced during the Kharif season were  insufficient.

As reported, in the meeting, H D Kumaraswamy apprised the Prime Minister about the pro-active steps taken to mitigate the drought impact on farmers.
