Karnataka unit of Congress has suspended seven block leaders for allegedly not supporting Nikhil Kumaraswamy, JD(S) candidate in Mandya. The Karnataka Congress unit said that they were involved in anti-party activities and also that that they were not favouring the JD(S) candidate from Mandya.

Nikhil Kumaraswamy is the grandson of HD Deve Gowda, the son of HD Kumaraswamy. Earlier reports had stated how Manjushree, the Deputy Commissioner of Mandya was transferred by the election Commission for favouritism to the candidate Nikhil Kumaraswamy and how she had not taken any action when Sumalatha Ambareesh, an independent candidate from Mandya brought the issue under her concern. Now the issue has arisen were the Congress party is suspending its leaders for not supporting the JD(S) candidate.

“As the district block leaders refused to campaign for Nikhil defying high command’s diktat (orders), state unit president Dinesh Gundu rao, has suspended them for indiscipline and anti-party activities,” party’s official Ravi Gowda tod IANS.

“As they refused to fall in line and obey the party’s orders for the cause of coalition dharma, the party had to suspend them and seek explanation for defying the diktat,” he went on to state.

In a similar move, the Deputy Commissioner of Hassan, Akram Pasha, and the Superintendent of police, AN Prakash Gowda were also transferred from Hassan, when HD Revanna’s son Prajwal Revanna was contesting.
