Rebel Legislators from Congress and JD(S) Coalition government on Wednesday moved to the Apex Court against the Assembly Speaker for delaying in accepting their resignation. The Rebels alleged that Assembly Speaker is not performing his constitutional duty and deliberately delaying the acceptance of their resignations submitted with him since Saturday.

Representing the rebel faction, Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi filed a plea in the Supreme Court and sought an urgent hearing on the matter.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi assured him that the plea would be heard but at some later date.

The Top court is likely to take up the matter on Thursday.

It should be noted that the Assembly Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar had on Tuesday said that out of all the 13 Resignations submitted only 5 are in the correct format. While rest the remaining Eight is not in the correct format. He asked the MLAs to submit the resignation again properly.

In the meantime, BJP State President BS Yeddyurappa along with Party workers sat on Dharna outside Vidhana Soudha against the Governor for not accepting the resignation of disgruntled MLAs which are in the correct format.

He further added that he will meet the Governor and the Assembly Speaker. ‘Assembly speaker had earlier stated that 5-6 resignations are in the correct format. Then why there is a delay in accepting the resignation of those 5-6 Legislators.

While Congress Minister DK Shivakumar early in the day reached Mumbai to meet rebels. however, he was barred by the Police from entering the Hotel.

The 13-months old coalition government suffered a huge setback on Saturday when 11 MLAs from Congress–JD(S) ruling coalition tendered their resignation.

If the resignation of all 13 MLAs, 11 MLAs of Congress-JDS and 2 Independent MLAs, are accepted then the coalition government will be reduced to a minority with 103 MLAs which is 9 less than the required figures.
