Former Deputy inspector of prison (DIG) Roopa Moudgil had submitted a report to the government saying that AIADMK General Secretary and convict VK Sasikala Natarajan, her sister-in-law, Elavarasi and nephew VK Sudhakaran were getting the royal treatment in the women’s cell.

She had also accused Karnataka Director General of Prisons (DGP) Satyanarayana Rao and city central jail officials for undue favors to her and in return receiving a bribe of Rs 2 crore. She said that Sasikala had given Rs 1 crore to Rao and another Rs 1 crore was distributed among officials, including warden of the central jail.

Following these allegations made by Roopa, she was transferred to the sidelines in the Traffic department apparently a punishment for speaking out. However this did not just stop here, DGP Satyanarayana Rao has issued a seven-page long notice on Thursday, demanding an unconditional apology from Roopa or he will file a Rs 50 cr defamation suit against her.

“You are required to get an apology duly published in all leading newspapers in the next three days, failing which, I will be constrained to initiate appropriate legal proceedings, both civil and criminal, against you to recover damages from you and the same is quantified as Rs 50 crore tentatively,” read the notice.

Rao also accused Roopa of damaging his hard earned image in past thirty years just before his retirement. He said that Roopa’s allegations were based on hearsay and she did not have any proof of it. He claimed that she clicked a few photographs of the prison, but did not provide any pictures of the royal treatments to Sasikala and the special kitchen she had mentioned in her report because no such kitchen existed.
