Shashi Tharoor

Kerala Congress unit chief Mullappally Ramachandran has written a letter asking for the explanation from Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor over his remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Kerala Chief said that the Tharoor’s comments do not resonate well with the party’s stand. Shashi Tharoor has said that Modi should be praised whenever he says or does the right thing.

But the remarks of Shashi Tharoor has not gone well with the Congress Party. He replied to the party by arguing his case that he is still a strong opponent of Modi government. But he urged his fellow leaders to respect his stand and understand his remarks.

Shashi Tharoor is not the first person from the Congress party to praise Narendra Modi. Previously, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had also called for not demonizing Modi. Following his line, Abhishek Manu Singhvi extended his support to the leader through a tweeted message- “Always said demonizing #Modi wrong. Not only is he #PM of the nation, a one-way opposition actually helps him. Acts are always good, bad & indifferent — they must be judged issue wise and not person wise. Certainly, #ujjawala scheme is only one amongst other good deeds.”

The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee said that after a reply from Shashi Tharoor, it would submit a report on the matter to All India Congress Committee. Other leaders like Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, TN Pratapan, Benny Behanan and K Muraleedharan also criticized Tharoor for his comments. Some party members even went up to say that those who praise Modi, should join the Bhartiya Janta Party.

Previously on Article 370 too, Congress saw a division in its party lines when one faction of the party supported the scrapping of Article 370. While senior leaders such as Ghulam Nabi Azad condemned the move by the Union government. Congress Working Committee member Deependera Hooda had expressed his support in favor of the government’s decision.
