All India Kisan Congress (AIKC), the farmer wing of Congress, on Wednesday has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserting the need to have an effective mechanism to addresses the problems of farmers hit by drought and flood crisis.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, All India Kisan Congress President Nano Patole stated that natural calamities in the form of droughts and floods are hitting farmers every now and then. ‘We need a responsive and effective financial relief mechanism that addresses the needs of affected farmers’.

Raising questions of PM Fasal Bima Yojna(PMFBY), Nana Patole claimed that lakhs of farmers are still looking to get their claim settled, and the state governments are not paying their premium dues’, he stated in a letter.

Addressing a Press Conference over the issue, AIKC President said, ‘I want to talk about the condition of farmers under the Modi government. A copy of the findings will also be sent to Modi ji’.

Accusing the Government of not fulfilling the promises, Nana Patole said, ‘Modi Government had promised double price to farmers. MSP has been raised by Rs 50-65 while price of fertilizers, diesel and Petrol have been raised and that’s affecting the overall farming expenditure’.

‘Modi ji had promised Rs 6000 to farmers, they have not stayed true on their promise. It has been taken back from those who had received it’, he further said.

Raising questions of Fasal Bima Yojana, Chief of All India Kisan Congress said, ‘PM Fasan Bima Yojana has not benefited the farmers but the insurance companies instead. We want this to benefit the farmers. Under Modi government, farmer suicides have gone up in past 5 years’.

Asserting the need to connect MNREGA with Agriculture, Nana Patole said, ‘The MNREGA that was criticised by Modi Govt is still running. We have been demanding for long that MNREGA also be connected with agriculture’.

He added, ‘We want farmers to get 4X income for their land being acquired and they to benefit from the cess from the industries being set up’.
