Ram Nath Kovind, NDA’s presidential candidate, has resigned from his post of Bihar Governor. This development comes following the announcement of him being the NDA’s candidate for presidential polls, due next month. The current president, Pranab Mukherjee has accepted his resignation. This was announced through a statement issued by the president’s office earlier today.

Keshari Nath Tripathi, who is currently the governor of West Bengal, will take additional responsibility, till a replacement to Ram Nath Kovind is announced. Kovind was announced as NDA’s candidate on Monday evening, after that he flew to Delhi to meet Amit Shah and Narendra Modi.

Belonging to a Dalit family, Ram Nath Kovind holds a law degree and has cleared the prestigious civil services examination. He has also been a member of Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh.
