Lalu prasad Yadav

Possibilities of trouble mounting further on Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Yadav could get escalated after a special CBI court in Ranchi will pronounce its verdict in the fourth fodder scam case today.

Yadav, who has already been convicted in three such cases before, is currently lodged in Ranchi’s central prison. He was convicted in the first fodder scam case in 2013 and was awarded a five-year sentence. Convictions in the second and third cases happened on December, 2017 and January 23, respectively, following which he was sentenced to five years in prison.

Apart from Lalu, there are almost thirty other persons who have been accused in this case. These include former CM Jagannath Mishra and other senior politicians like Jagdish Sharma, RK Rana and Vidyasagar Nishad.

These cases, popularly called fodder scams, relate to allegations of corruption involving several crores of Rupees that first surfaced in 1990s when Lalu was the chief minister of a unified Bihar state. CBI had been ordered to investigate these cases after the Patna High Court allowed a PIL seeking investigations.
