Income tax authorities had issued summons to RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav‘s daughter Misa Bharti and her husband Shailesh Kumar in connection with alleged Rs 1,000-crore benami property deals in the Bijwasan area of Delhi through a web of shell companies.

Misa was supposed to appear before the investigating officer (IO) of the case on 6 June, but did not come and so a penalty Rs 10,000 was issued on her by the IT department for not appearing for the summon and not giving a valid reason for the absence. Another date was also assigned for her appearance, on 12 June, however Misa failed to appear for the second time also.

Income Tax Department officials said it has decided to issue a second penalty show cause notice of Rs 10,000 to Bharti for non-compliance of summons also giving her a fresh and a third chance to appear for questioning.

Misa Bharti’s husband Shailesh Kumar had also skipped appearance before the IO on 7 June. He was also charged with a penalty of rs 10,000 by the IT department for not appearing for the summon. His second appearance is due on 13 June.
