Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Thursday in a television discussion had made a statement that Rahul Gandhi is not the same anymore like he was three years back, situations have changed now. The Congress had found a leader in him and he was now capable of leading India he had added.

However, just a day after he made this statement, he said that his statement about the Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi was being misinterpreted. He cleared that his statement had been taken in the wrong context and that he was only describing the current political situation in India, as he was asked to give his views on.

Clearing his statement Raut said that “In that TV discussion, I was asked to give my view on Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, to which I said that he wasn’t the old Rahul Gandhi he used to be three years ago. He is now the vice president of the Congress. Many things have changed.”

He agreed that he has said that Rahul is a capable leader and can lead India, but he did not mean to say that he can become the Prime Minister. Raut cleared that none of his statements were against Prime Minister Narendra Modi or his leadership, he only expressed his views regarding Rahul Gandhi that Congress had found a leader in Rahul unlike three years back when he was mocked as pappu.

Meanwhile, Congress senior spokesperson Ajay Maken, in his statement to the press, also on Friday said that Rahul Gandhi  Rahul Gandhi is capable of leading the Congress, the United Progressive Alliance, and the country. He also assured that Rahul’s elevation as the Party President will soon be done.

When questioned about his views on the remarks of Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, he said that “As far as (Gandhi’s) acceptance by other parties is concerned, we in the Congress have always felt that he is our leader, vice-president.”

Responding to the query in the reason for the delay in party’s election process for the next President, Maken said that various PCC elections have been completed and the organizational polls were in its last stage. “You have seen various PCC elections have been completed. The election process is in an advanced stage,” he said.

A few days back the party had also cited that since the assembly polls in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh are also round the corner, therefore the elections to choose the next President of Congress was being a little delayed.

Rahul Gandhi’s active participation in the election campaigns in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh has definitely brought a positive change to his previous image as a politician, let alone a leader. The force with which Rahul is attacking the BJP and the change of events in the formation of the political equations in Gujarat has further boosted his image as a capable leader.

Rahul and his speech were not taken seriously earlier, but after the successful campaigning in the poll-bound Gujarat and the serious with which the party has made a thrashing entry on the social media is also being appreciated and the people have begun to take Rahul seriously, giving high hopes to Congress to contest him as the Prime Ministerial face in the Lok Sabha elections due in 2019.
