Left parties staged a roadblock protest on Friday to corner the BJP-led central government in Andhra Pradesh on the issue of farmer’s welfare. The protest was held at Chennai Kolkata National Highway at Gannavaram in Krishna district.

The workers of left parties criticized the central government for not fulfilling their promises made to the farmers. In their manifesto, the Saffron party had promised extensive welfare programs for the farmers. They alleged that the farmers are not getting Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their yields under the Narendra Modi government. CPM and CPI workers were the leading participants in the protests.

As quoted by ANI, protestors said, “Agriculture is in crisis. 5,000 farmers committed suicides in the country. All the PSUs are being privatized. The economy of the country is dampened. Corporate tax is reduced so that capitalists get benefited. There is a rapid increase in unemployment.

Some of the protestors were also arrested by the police authorities. After the arrest of their compatriots, remaining left workers also gathered around the police station for demanding the release of the workers.
