In a bid to win the upcoming by-polls in the Karnataka state, JD-S (Janata Dal-Secular) party has announced that it will give tickets to the local leaders for contesting on the seats.

Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy conveyed the news of the party’s decision today. The leader also said that his party will contest the elections alone and no one from HD Deve Gowda family will be given tickets this time. Speaking on the matter, he said “We have suffered a lot after fielding family members in elections. Enough of the pain. We will not field anybody from our family this time, though there is pressure from people.

The question of alliance with Congress party has been ruled out completely, as iterated by the party president HD Deve Gowda. Party will contest the elections alone.

Congress-JD(S) alliance-

The Congress party and JD-S had tied up in an alliance after last year’s Karnataka assembly polls. After coming to power, HD Kumaraswamy was made the Chief Minister of Karnataka. Even with just 37 seats, JD-S (Janata Dal-Secular) got the stronghold in the alliance. However, soon after the collapse of his government, the blame game began between the two factions of the alliance. HD Kumaraswamy’s government collapsed due to the absence of defection of its 17 legislators during the trust vote.

Karnataka by-polls-

Karnataka will go for polls on October 21. Counting of votes will take place on October 24. The by-polls have been necessitated by the disqualification of 15 legislators from HD Kumaraswamy government. Former Speaker of Karnataka legislative assembly, KR Ramesh Kumar had disqualified 17 legislators of the Congress–JD(s) coalition under anti-defection law stated in 10th schedule.

In the disqualification case, Justice Mohan M. Shantanagoudar rescued himself recently, He was one of the judge hearing the case of disqualification.
