West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh announced Locket Chatterjee as the new President of the Mahila Morcha in West Bengal.

He clarified that since the former President of the Mahila Morcha, Roopa Ganguly is a Rajya Sabha MP and spends most of her time in Delhi to shoulder her duties as an MP, the party decided to appoint Chatterjee as the new President. However, few are of the belief that this reshuffle is because of the recent comments made by Ganguly, that women from outside West Bengal won’t survive in the state for 15 days without being raped.

On July 14 Roopa Ganguly had said that “I will tell people of India and politicians, everyone who supports Trinamool Congress, including some Congress leaders… to send their wives and daughters to Bengal without taking hospitality of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. If they are able to survive there for 15 days without getting raped then tell me.” Following these audacious comments, a FIR was lodged against the MP, also state CID had also sent notices to Ganguly and party national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya in connection with an alleged baby trafficking case.

A few BJP members accepted that Ganguly was not fit to remain in her post and after the CID notice and FIR lodged against her, it was best to replace her.
