DMK leader Dayanadhi Maran after voting for the second phase of the Lok Sabha election in Tamil Nadu addressed the press and appealed to the voters to vote for a change of government. AIADMK alleged to the Election Commission that this is a violation of the model code of conduct and action should be taken against Dayanidhi Maran.

AIADMK on Thursday approached the Election Commission saying that Dayanidhi Maran addressed the press after he voted. In his address, he said that he has voted for the change of government and every voter should do so, which indirectly was appealing for the votes on the day of polling. AIADMK said that this is the violation of the Model Code of Conduct and thus Election Commission should take the necessary action against the DMK leader.

Dayanidhi Marana is the candidate from Central Chennai Lok Sabha constituency for the 17th Lok Sabha elections.

DMK spokesperson and advocate R M Babu Murgavel filed a complaint to the Election Commission. They also submitted a copy of the address to the Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo.

Advocate R M Babu Murgavel alleged that Dayanidhi Maran addressed the press and said, “I voted for the change of government” and “requested” people to do the same. Murgavel alleged that “The address is a clear indication to the voters to cast their votes in DMK’s favor. This is a violation of the model code of conduct.” He urged the Election Commission to take necessary actions against the former Union minister.

38 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu went to polls in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Thursday. April 18. The results will be announced on May 23.
