While the country was witnessing the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections, Election Commission on Thursday banned the Madhya Pradesh Congress committees’ poll campaign. The congress committee was campaigning in Madhya Pradesh using the slogan ‘Chowkidar chor hai.’

The Madhya Pradesh unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) filed a complaint to the Election Commission and submitted an audio and video where Congress leaders were seen using the slogan ‘chowkidar Chir hai’. Taking the BJP’s complaint into consideration, the Election commission banned the campaign.

Rajesh Kaul, Joint chief electoral officer of Madhya Pradesh said that “The Congress advertisement campaign that was titled ‘Chowkidar chor hai’ has been banned with an immediate effect by the EC. These kinds of advertisement will not be allowed to be broadcast.”

The following slogan came into existence when BJP started its campaign from ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar.’ In the fight between Congress and BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has often referred himself as Chowkidar. Taking a jibe on PM Modi the opposition started using Chowkidar to rebuke the PM. Later on, the BJP leaders started using Mai Bhi Chowkidar to reinforce the party’s image and unity.

The opposition party has many time used the slogan “chowkidar chor hai” to rebuke the ruling party and attack the Prime Minister and the BJP leaders. the slogan was also targeted at the BJP is regard to the Rafale deal.

Lok Sabha election in Madhya Pradesh will be held in four phases on April 29, May 6, May 12, and May 19. The results for the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on May 23.
