Jaya Prada, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) candidate for Rampur constituency has invited trouble for herself in her response to the sexist remarks of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate Azam Khan. The actor-turned-politician in her address to the gathering in Rampur while campaigning, said that the way Azam Khan commented on her, the ‘BSP chief, Mayawati can imagine what all he will be looking at with his X-ray vision when she comes along with her.”

Election Commission has filed a case against Jaya Prada after her retaliatory statement defaming the BSP chief ripened controversy.

The Election commission previously barred Azam Khan from campaigning for 732 hours owing to his derogatory remarks on the actor-turned-politician Jaya Prada. In a gathering in Uttar Pradesh, Azam Khan said that “people of India took 17 years to understand her reality, but I could recognize it in 17 days what color underwear she wears.” The statement received flak from the ruling BJP and its leaders for making prerogative statements and aggravating personal rivalry.

Recently, Election commission also banned Mayawati and Yogi Aditya Nath for their violation of Model Code of Conduct in their speech. The Election Commission barred them on the grounds of making “highly provocative speech which has the tone an tenor of aggravating existing difference between the individuals or parties and creating mutual hatred between different religious communities.”

Samajwadi party’s Azam Khan who is a nine-time MLA from Rampur assembly will contest against BJP’s Jaya Prada who has been an SP MP for two terms is Rampur.

The Rampur constituency in Uttar Pradesh will go to polls tomorrow, April 23, in the third phase of Lok Sabha elections. The results will be announced on May 23.
