Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued fresh notice against Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu for his objectionable comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi which violated the Model Code of Conduct.

Election Commission has given 24 hours to reply to Navjot Singh Sidhu.

Notice issued by Election Commission said that ” the election commission has after considering the available material and extend provisions of the model code of conduct instructions in the matter, decided to provide an opportunity to Shri Navjot Singh Sidhu, if any, in the matter within 24 hours of receipt of this notice.” EC also said that if Navjot Singh Sidhu fails to reply within the given time then the EC shall take a decision without further reference to him.

Shri Neeraj, member of Election Commission committee and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) filed a complaint against Navjot Singh Sidhu alleging that he has made an objectionable statement against Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi while he was addressing a rally in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh on April 29.

The BJP alleged that the Congress leader had accused Prime Minister of benefiting big businessman like Anil Ambani and making use amount of money in the Rafale jet deal. The accused also made statements against Prime Minister saying that he is doing politics on the “corpses of Martyrs.” Adding two statements Navjot Singh Sidhu also termed Modi as the ‘biggest traitor’ of the country.

In The run-up to the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress leader was the path from campaigning for 72 hours in the previous month for warning Muslims in Bihar to not let their votes split and stand against BJP by voting against its unitedly.
