Lok Sabha Polls: Re-poll underway at Booth No.123 in Amristar; Voters get ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ from EC

Re-polling for Lok Sabha Polls underway at booth No. 123 in Amritsar Parliamentary Constituency. The voters are being given ‘certificate of appreciation’ by the Election Commission.

The Poll Commission had on Monday ordered repolling at one polling booth of Amritsar Parliamentary constituency in Punjab.

Announcing the repolling the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, Dr. S Karuna Rau said that necessary arrangements have been made for the re-polling. It came after the Poll Officials find negligence during the polling process.

The political parties and the contesting candidates have also been intimated about the repolling as per the directions of Election Commission of India” said Dr. S Karuna Raju, Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab on Monday.

The ECI in a move to encourage voters ordered a paid leave to all the voters of this particular polling booth.

In Amritsar Lok Sabha Seat, BJP Candidate and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri is up against Congress sitting MP Gurjee Singh Aujla. While AAP has named Kuldip Singh Dhaliwal.

Captain Amarinder Singh had in 2014 polls defeated Arun Jaitley of BJP with over 1 Lakh votes. However, Singh later vacated the seat after being appointed as the Chief Minister of the state.

Amritsar Lok Sabha Seat went to polls on May 19 during the seventh and the last phase of elections.

Elections for 543 Lok Sabha seats were held between April 11 and May 19 across 7 phases of elections. The counting of votes for the mega polls is scheduled for May 23.

Almost all Exit polls predicted a clear Majority to Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) with above 300 seats. Polls predicted party’s landslide victory in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand among others.
