Shakeel Ahmad, Former Union minister, and Congress leader has a chance of contesting the Madhubani parliamentary constituency in Bihar in the Lok Sabha elections 2019. Congress-RJD is fighting the elections in an alliance in the state. ANI reported that Ahmad has sought permission from the party to contest elections from the constituency of Madhubani, Bihar.

According to the ANI, Shakeel Ahmad, the former General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has deposited the mandatory fee for the nomination in the treasury. Ahmad’s supporters have expressed disgust at the decision of the grand alliance to allot their seat to the Vikasshil Insan Party (VIP).

In Chitra Constituency in Jharkhand, Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) and Congress are contesting from the seat.

RJD will contest on 20 out of the total 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar as per the seat-sharing pact announced by the Congress-RJD leaders. The Congress is contesting on 9 seats. Rashtriya Lok Samta Party is contesting on five seats, Hindustan Awam Morcha is contesting on three seats, and Vikasshil Insan party will also contest on three seats in the state.

According to the seat-sharing agreement of NDA, JD(U) and BJP will be contesting on 17 seats each and LPG will be contesting on the remaining 6 seats.

The constituency is held by Union Minister Hukumdev Narayan Yadav of the BJP from where Congress has won eight times.

The constituency received a total of 52.85% voter turnout in 2014 general elections.

Lok Sabha elections in Madhubani will be held on May 6 in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha Polls. The last day to file the nomination is April 18.
