The by-polls were necessitated in Madhya Pradesh due to the death of Congress MLAs Mahendra Singh Kalukheda and Ram Singh Yadav for two seats Mungaoli and Kolaras.

Voting for by-polls : 

Voting for by-polls in the Mungaoli and Kolaras Assembly seats of Madhya Pradesh Bhopal began at 8 AM on Sunday.

“An error was reported in the EVM machine in the beginning at booth number 57 of Kolaras, but it was rectified and polling began soon after,” the official said.

“Polling is going on peacefully at all the polling booths in the two constituencies and no untoward incident was so far reported from anywhere,” Madhya Pradesh’s deputy chief electoral officer SS Bansal told PTI.

Both seats are in the Guna Lok Sabha constituency, represented by senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia.
A total of 22 candidates are in the fray in Kolaras while 13 are trying their luck in Mungaoli.

The total number of voters in the two constituencies are 2,44,457 (Kolaras) and 1,91,009 (Mungaoli).

Updates : 

Voting for Madhya Pradesh’s Mungaoli and Kolaras Assembly seats ended amid tight security this evening. Counting of votes will take place on February 28.

The bypolls are being considered as a prestige battle for Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who is in his third term as chief minister, and his arch-rival Jyotiraditya Scindia of the Congress.

70.40 percent voter turnout recorded in Kolaras bypoll.

Bijepur bypoll: Presiding officer of booth no-193 has been placed under suspension as he was found trying to influence voters to vote in favor of a particular candidate. The suspended official is identified as the HM of Thikipali project UP school under Bheden block.

Bijepur bypoll: 72 percent polling till 5 pm, but voters were still in the queue.
