The election commission of India has published the final electoral list of Madhya Pradesh in Bhopal. The chief Electoral officer V L Kantha Rao said that there has been a rise of about 8 percent in the number of voters in comparison to the number of voters registered in the polls of 2013.

Earlier, the number of voters were 4.66 crore while now the number of voters have increased to 5.03 crore. Rao, who was addressing the reporters said, “The total number of voters in MP is 5,03,94,086 out of which  2,63,14,957  are males and 2,40,77,719 females while 1410 people are registered under the third gender category”.

Referring to the improvement in gender ratio, Mr. Rao said that the gender ratio is 917 women per thousand men as opposed to 905 women per thousand men earlier. The highest gender ratio was recorded in Baihar where the gender ratio of 1019 women per 1000 men.

The biggest chunk of the voters is in the age group 20-29 years with a total number of 1,37,83,383  while the oldest voter is registered with the age as 104 and will be voting for the 14th time.

The chief electoral officer said, “Last year a list was published in October in which  5.02 voters were registered. Since then, 35.71 lakh applicants have been received for the removal of names while 36.13 lakh for enrolling their names in the voter list”.

Answering a query on expenditure of election, Rao said that they have applied for a budget of Rs 413 crore which was Rs 152 crore in the last assembly election. He also said that the average cost per person I the electoral process comes to around 50-60 rupees.

The state is going to hold the assembly elections by the end of this year.
