Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao chaired a meeting at RajBhavan, Mumbai for cleaning, restoration and beautification of Gateway of India, Mumbai. CM Devendra Fadnavis also attended the meeting.

The Bhartiya Janta Party led Maharashtra government has initiated a plan to clean, restore and beautify the iconic Gateway of India in Mumbai.

Governor C Vidyasagar Rao on Thursday chaired a meeting on the issue. It was attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and others.

Governor C Vidyasagar Rao asked BMC Commissioner and architects to prepare a plan within a month for proper cleanliness. Chief Minister Fadnavis also assured that the Government is working to protect historic monuments while maintaining its original glory.

The governor asked BMC Commissioner Ajoy Mehta and architects to prepare a project plan within a month.

The Gateway of India is an arch monument built during the 20th century. The iconic structure, which overlooks the Arabian Sea, was erected to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary at Apollo Bunder to Mumbai.

The foundation stone of the monument was laid on March 31, 1913, and its construction was completed in 1924. It is built in Indo-Saracenic style.

Chief Minister later in the day chaired a State level High Power Committee (HPC) meeting to approve various pilgrimage development plans in Mumbai. Ministers Pankaja Munde, Dilip Kamble, Deepak Kesarkar, Pravin Pote Patil were present in the meeting.

Chief Minister Fadnavis approved ₹6.79 crore for Shri Sant Gadge Baba KarmaBhumi, Aamla in Daryapur Taluka of Amravati district and ₹18 crore for Shri Sant Gadge Maharaj ShraddhaSthan, Nagarwadi in Amravati. ₹15 crore approved for first phase of Shri Sant Namdev Sansthan, Hingoli.
