Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday passed a resolution giving all rights to Congress President Rahul Gandhi to appoint new Congress legislative party (CLP) leader in the state Assembly.

In the meeting that was called on Monday to appoint new CLP Leader, Congress MLC Vijay Vadettiwar moved the proposal advocating to leave it to Rahul Gandhi to take a call on the appointment of new CLP Leader in the state. The proposal in the meeting was seconded by Lawmakers Naseem Khan and Yashomati Thakur which was accepted unanimously by the CLP.

The appointment of CLP was necessitated after the resignation of Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil as CLP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly last month amidst the national polls 2019.

He has sent his resignation letter to Congress President Rahul Gandhi last month after his son has joined Bharatiya Janata Party seeking ticket from Ahmednagar Parliamentary Seat.

Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi on April 26 accepted his resignation letter.

Sujay Vikhe Patil was denied ticket to contest from Ahmednagar Parliamentary Seats by NCP who had forged an alliance in the state with Indian National Congress. Later, he joined Bharatiya Janata Party on March 12 in presence of CM Devendra Fadnavis.

Maharashtra has a total of 48 Seats and polls in the state being held in four phases starting till April 29.

The Fight in the state is between Congress who has forged an alliance with NCP in Maharashtra. The Congress-NCP combine will take on BJPShiv Sena alliance in the state that sends 48 parliamentarians to the lower house of the Parliament.
