West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee has called for an emergency meeting at Nabanna and has asked all the chairman of the development boards to be present in the meeting.

This emergency decision to call for the meeting was taken by the CM as fresh violence could be seen in the hills after women and youth wing of the Gorkha Janmuktu Morcha (GJM) took out a rally . Thousands of Morcha supporters , specially women, were moving towards Patlebas, operational head quarter and residence of Morcha president Bimal Gurung, when the security forces stopped them leading to the supporters getting violent.

In order to control the situation, police had to resort to lathi charge and lob tear gas shells at Singmari (MOrcha’s office). However this  did not stop the protesters, they kept coming in short intervals, throwing stones at the police.

The women and the youth were taking out the rallies, to demonstrate their agitation towards the police actions, who were trying to suppress the movement on orders of Mamata Banerjee. Another reason to instigate fire in the rally was the raids conducted at the residence of GJM chief Bimal Gurung on Friday.

The situation became tense after police arrested Vikram Rai, son of GJM MLA Amar Rai and Morcha’s media manager. Rai was picked up from his residence at the early hours and was granted bail late in the morning.
