Putting an end to the ongoing political drama in Goa, Bhartiya Janata Party led government today won the floor test which was mandated by the supreme court. The assembly which needed 21 MLAs for the majority saw 22 members voting in favor of Manohar Parrikar‘s government. Winning of floor test for Manohar Parrikar means that he can continue as the CM of Goa, before needing to prove his membership in the house in the next 6 months.

Governor of Goa had called a special session of assembly today for the floor test. BJP had won 13 seats in the recently concluded assembly elections, second after Congress which had 17 seats. BJP however got support of regional parties like Goa Forward Party and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party which had 3 MLAs each and 3 independent MLAs.

Before this, Congress had filed a plea with the supreme court to put a stay on the swearing in ceremony of Manohar Parrikar citing that Congress came out as the single largest party in the state and that it should have given the first chance to form the government. Supreme Court denied to put a stay and had asked to conduct the floor test today.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi once again accused BJP of using its money power to form government in states of Manipur and Goa.

After winning the floor test, Manohar Parrikar spoke to the media and said that he was hopeful of leading a stable government to a full 5 year term.
