Manvendra Singh, son of Jaswant Singh, a former central minister & founding member of BJP, has officially joined Congress after a press conference in Jaipur earlier today. He announced his move in front of the media with the likes of Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlot. With this, the political situation in Rajasthan has turned interesting ahead of upcoming assembly elections in the state. BJP is already trying to address the anti-incumbency in the state and reports suggest that the party might field at least 100 new faces in a 200 member assembly election.

Manvendra Singh had left Bhartiya Janata Party in a public meeting recently. He had also termed it a mistake to join BJP at the first place. Days after him leaving the party, he had indicated his intentions to join Congress.

Manvendra Singh has a decent following in the regions of Barmer and Jaisalmer and him joining the opposition might cost significantly to ruling BJP in upcoming assembly elections.

Recent surveys have shown Congress in a clear majority and this latest political development might add more to their fortunes.

Elections in Rajasthan are on 7th December and the counting of votes will take place on 11th December.
