Maoists have put up posters in Kerala‘s Wayanad district asking for the boycott of elections.

The general elections are to hit Wayanad district on the 23rd of this month and some maoists have already put up posters asking the people, mainly plantation workers, to boycott elections. The posters were put up at the Mundakkai town of Wayanad asking people not to be a part of the 2019 assembly elections. According to the district police chief R Karuppasamy, the posters were put up early on Monday morning.

Wayanad is the constituency from which Rahul Gandhi is contesting opposite Thushar Vellapally of the Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP]. Rahul Gandhi, who visited Wayanad on April 4 is likely to visit Wayanad again on the 16th of this month.

S. Sudhakar Reddy, general secretary of CPI, had on Sunday said that Rahul took the wrong decision by choosing to contest from Wayanad and that his party was confident of winning the seat.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had on Friday said that “the CPI (M) Can do well without what he described as the benevolence of the Congress president”.

As the CPI(M) and the Congress had stood together in the Mahagathbandhan with leaders like Mamata Banerjee with them, Rahul’s candidature might be a setback for the leftist government in Wayanad because of the dividence of the Muslim and Christian votes.
