Bahujan Samaj Party President Mayawati reprehended the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inaugurating Purvanchal Expressway project yesterday whose foundation was laid in 2014.

PM laid the foundation of the 340 km- long Purvanchal Expressway yesterday at Azamgarh. He remarked the occasion as the “beginning of a new chapter” in the development of eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Before the criticism by Mayawati, Samajwadi Party chief and former Chief Minister of UP Akhilesh Yadav already slammed BJP for taking credit of his project. He said that the PM has “relaunched” the project which he laid the foundation of during his reign as the CM.  The launch was planned under the name of  ‘Samajwadi Purvanchal Expressway’ during Yadav’s rule.

Questioning the motive of the launch of the Purvanchal Expressway, Mayawati commented, “Laying of foundation stone for the Purvanchal Expressway while the Lok Sabha elections were approaching is a ‘chalava’ (deception) with the people. If the prime minister had implemented this old scheme after in 2014 (when he came to power), then instead of laying the foundation stone, it would have been inaugurated. But this did not happen.”

She also said the if the then Central Government of Congress had given a no objection certificate, the projects of Purvanchal Expressway, Jewar Airport and the 8-lane Ganga Expressway from Greater Noida to Ballia would have begun during her rule in UP.

PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the 23,000 crore Purvanchal Expressway which is likely to be completed in three years. He also declared projects worth ₹937 crore to his Lok Sabha constituency in Varanasi. He is on his two-day visit to Uttar Pradesh.
