Bahujan Samajwadi Party‘s Chief Mayawati is organising a rally in Meerut on Sep 18, with an effort to get the party back in the political equations of Uttar Pradesh.

All the eyes are on the rally as this is being regarded as the first attempt by the party to come back to the front after the defeat in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections in 2017. The success of the rally may be a major factor in deciding the how much popularity of the BSP Chief is still prevailing in the state.

During the Monsoon session of the Parliament this year on July 18 Mayawati had given her resignation from the Rajya Sabha seat. This may be brought up as a major topic during the rally and also this incident marks the date decided as 18 for the rally. Mayawati will be holding a rally in UP’s different divisions including in Varanasi and Azamgarh on the 18th of every month.

This rally is also a way of instigating energy and mobilising the party cadres in in its favour in UP’s three divisions Meerut, Moradabad and Saharanpur. According to party source earlier Mayawati was planning to hold one rally for two divisions but with the latest developments now cadres of Moradabad division are invited to join her Meerut rally. This decision taken by the chief shows her dedication to make the rally a grand success, said the source.

The sources also informed that “We want record gathering of party supporters at the rally,” and for this district-level functionaries are ordered to gather at least 5,000 party supporters from each assembly constituency to attend the rally.

Ahead of the rally, BSP has also contacted all its candidates who had represented the party from different constituencies during the 2017 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Mayawati is also planning to hold a series of rallies across the state to boost the confidence and the morale of the party workers.

Another speculation also being considered is that if the rally of BSP is Meerut turns out to be a success, then the party may take a final call on joining one of the anti-BJP alliance. However, Mayawati has cleared that BSP is ready to join any political platform against BJP if the allotment of the seats s decided and cleared prior to the engagement.
