Mehbooba Mufti said that the country has left Kashmir alone during a difficult time. The chief minister passed these comments when during the 64th Convention and exhibition of the Travel Agents Association of India.

She said, “If you look at the world, globally, everywhere there are problems but the problem is that our country has left us alone.

The convention was being held after 32 years. She also said that the ignorance has also affected the state’s tourism. She further said, “Our problem is very tough. There are many ways to deal with the situation but we are using only one way, which is to fight the gun with a gun. The wounds inflicted in the process also need to be treated and if anyone can treat those wounds, it is the people of the country, it is you.”

She recalled her father Sayeed in her address who had said the tourists who came to Kashmir were an investment in peace. She said that the state is the crown of the country which in recent times has lost its sheen. The state is facing a problem that is not their fault. Kashmir has been facing a turbulent time which has affected the state’s tourism and business.

She also blamed the media for painting a one-dimensional picture of  Kashmir in the people’s minds. Mufti also called Kashmir the safest place for the women of the country. She spoke about the state’s cultural diversity and said that the country doesn’t have as much diversity as does Kashmir. Tassaduq Mufti also addressed the inaugural event, saying, “People often talk about perspectives but how do you change perspectives of the people who are watching national media in all corners of the country. My answer is that this is the start.” If a change can be brought, it won’t be made by the state alone.
