Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also condemned the ban of the Outfit. ‘Democracy is a battle of ideas, crackdown followed by banning of Jammat Islami (jk) is condemnable, another example of high handedness and muscular approach of GOI [Government of India] to deal with a political issue of J&K’ She said in a tweet.

Further training guns towards the BJP ruled Central Government, She said, ‘Why is GoI so uncomfortable with Jamaat e Islami? Radicalised Hindu groups representing fringe elements are given carte blanche to spread misinformation & vitiate the atmosphere. But an org that has worked tirelessly for Kashmiris is banned. Is being anti-BJP anti-national now?’ She said in another tweet.

Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday banned the ‘Jamat-e-Islami’ which is a religious-political and separatist’s group, a period of 5 years, in the Valley. The government stated that this Jammu and Kashmir based ‘outfit’ has the potential to disrupt the unity and integrity of the country.

The government of India Sources as quoted by ANI said, ‘Jamaat-e-Islami (J&K), which has been banned, is the main organisation responsible for the propagation of separatist and radical ideology in Kashmir valley. This organisation has nothing to do with Jamaat-e-Islami.’

It has enacted its own Constitution in 1953, Sources further added. Sources further revealed that ‘Jamaat-e-Islami (J&K) is responsible for the formation of Hizbul Mujahideen, the biggest terrorist org active in J&K. JeI (J&K) has been providing support to HM in terms of recruits, funding, logistics, etc. In a way, HM is a militant wing of JeI (J&K)’ as quoted by ANI.

The Home Ministry in its notice mentioned that Jamat-e-Islami, J&K has been indulging in activities, which are “prejudicial to internal security and public order”.
