A day after the Jammu and Kashmir chapter of the Jamaat- e- Islami was banned, Separatist Leaders Resistance Group, Joint Resistance Leadership, comprising Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Yasin Malik and Syed Ali Geelani, had called for protests against the five-year ban against the JeI, Jammu and Kashmir.

Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq termed it as Dictatorship. “Not allowed to offer Friday prayers. Jama Masjid locked down and restrictions in most city, while arrests continue and Jamat e Islami declared “unlawful”. Dictatorship at its best” He said in a tweet.

The Mehboob Mufti’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Peoples Conference both were allies of BJP in Coalition Government in the valley also condemned the ban of Jamat-e-Islami.

Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also condemned the ban of the Outfit. ‘Democracy is a battle of ideas, crackdown followed by banning of Jammat Islami (jk) is condemnable, another example of high handedness and muscular approach of GOI [Government of India] to deal with a political issue of J&K’ She said in a tweet.

Further training guns towards the BJP ruled Central Government, She said, ‘Why is GoI so uncomfortable with Jamaat e Islami? Radicalised Hindu groups representing fringe elements are given carte blanche to spread misinformation & vitiate the atmosphere. But an org that has worked tirelessly for Kashmiris is banned. Is being anti-BJP anti-national now?’ She said in another tweet.

Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday banned the ‘Jamat-e-Islami’ which is a religious-political and separatist’s group, a period of 5 years, in the Valley. The government stated that this Jammu and Kashmir based ‘outfit’ has the potential to disrupt the unity and integrity of the country.

It is ‘banned’ under  ‘unlawful association’ under Section 3 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The government of India Sources as quoted by ANI said, ‘Jamaat-e-Islami (J&K), which has been banned, is the main organisation responsible for the propagation of separatist and radical ideology in Kashmir valley. This organisation has nothing to do with Jamaat-e-Islami.’

It has enacted its own Constitution in 1953, Sources further added. Sources further revealed that ‘Jamaat-e-Islami (J&K) is responsible for the formation of Hizbul Mujahideen, the biggest terrorist org active in J&K. JeI (J&K) has been providing support to HM in terms of recruits, funding, logistics, etc. In a way, HM is a militant wing of JeI (J&K)’ as quoted by ANI.

The Home Ministry in its notice mentioned that Jamat-e-Islami, J&K has been indulging in activities, which are “prejudicial to internal security and public order”.
