Aam Admi Party has extended its support to the opposition’s Presidential Election candidate Meira Kumar. AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal said that former Lok Sabha Speaker’s representatives had telephoned Kejriwal and sought support for her candidature.

Party leader Sanjay Singh confirmed that the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) headed by (Delhi) Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has decided to support the opposition candidate Meira Kumar for the Presidential polls.

Meira Kumar was announced as the opposition’s candidate for the Presidential Elections due on 17 July. The elections will be held on 17 July also being the first day of the Monsoon session of the Parliament and the voting will be done through the secret ballot system. Results will be announced on 20 July, incumbent President Pranab Mukherjee will be vacating the office on 24 July. Meira Kumar will be contending the elections against NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind.

The support of AAP is not likely to make much difference in the results as it holds less than 1% of the total votes in the Presidential election. It has over 60 MLAs in Delhi and 20 in Punjab apart from four MPs from Punjab.
