United Progressive Alliance‘s candidate, Meira Kumar, remained evasive on approaching CM Nitish Kumar to support her for presidential elections. When asked about Nitish Kumar’s decision of supporting her opponent, Meira Kumar said that this is nothing new, such things happen in politics. Meira Kumar, in her previous statements, said that people in power should support and promote communal harmony rather than disrupt it. She has written letters to all the leader seeking their support and to listen to their voice of conscience.

On Wednesday, she held meeting in Shillong, where she met all the MPs and MLAs of Meghalaya and then interacted with the legislators of Assam, Arunachal, Mizoram, Manipur, and Sikkim in Guwahati. She said that she has the support of UDP and Assam-based All India United Democratic Front.

Reportedly, Congress leaders are in touch with Northeast parties and are receiving responses in favour of Meira Kumar.

CM Nitish Kumar already said that their party will support NDA’s candidateRamnath Kovind, in the presidential poll. Even though he has been accused by many party leaders, he is firm about his decision, which surely suggests that this man holds up his own ideologies.
