The Union Home Ministry on Wednesday directed ousted CBI Chief Alok Verma to join the post of DG Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards. Reports claimed that MHA has sent a letter to Former CBI Chief Verma two weeks after he has tendered his resignation and told the Department of Personnel and Training to consider him retired.

‘You are directed to join the post of DG, Fire Services, Civil Defence & Home Guards immediately’ directed MHA letter to Alok Verma.

The Home Ministry’s reply was in response to a request by Verma to consider him superannuated from January 11 after he was moved out of the post of CBI Director by the high-power selection committee chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 10.

Former CBI Chief Alok Verma in a letter to Secretary Department of Personnel and Training: It may be noted that the undersigned would have already superannuated as on July 31, 2017, and was only serving the Government as Director, CBI till January 31, 2019, as the same was a fixed tenure role.

As he had attained the age of superannuation from government service on July 31, 2017 and crossed the superannuation age for DG Fire Services, Civil Defence & Home Guards, he wanted to be superannuated from the day he was moved out of CBI.

As his fixed tenure is slated to end on 31st January 2019. It means that MHA through its letter directed to join for a day.

Former CBI Director was sacked from his post on January 10 by a high powered panel headed by PM Narendra Modi, and other members of the high powered committee include – Justice Sikri and Congress Leader Mallikarjun Kharge. The Panel posted Alok Verma as Director General Fire Service, Civil Defence, and Home Guards. However, Verma a day after being sacked tendered his resignation from the assigned post and said, ” Natural Justice was scuttled”.

Mallikarjun Kharge, representing the Opposition in the Panel was the only member in the high powered committee who gave a dissent note on the decision to sack Verma.
