The Enforcement Directorate had filed a criminal case on 11 Feb for criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery under the provisions of the Companies Act, with the Serious Fraud Investigating Office (SFIO) in Delhi’s Tis Hazari court against Jain brothers Surendra Kumar Jain and Virendra Jain and Jagat Project Pvt. RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter Misa Bharti and her husband Shailesh Kumar are supposedly the directors of the companies associated with the case and hence series of CBI raids were conducted at the premises of Lalu’s kin on 16 May. After the raids, Misa Bharti and her husband Shailesh Kumar were twice summoned by the Income-tax authorities to appear before the ED but none of them showed up for the hearing.

The ED for the third time had summoned both Misa and her husband to appear before enforcement authorities for questioning. Shailesh was summoned on Saturday to appear on Monday, but he did not show, however, Misa was summoned to appear on Tuesday and she did arrive before the ED.

Bharti was on June 21 questioned by the Income Tax officials for over five hours in connection with an over Rs 1,000-crore Benami (proxy) land deals case.
