DMK party has announced a state-wide protest in Tamil Nadu on September 20 against the remarks of Home Minister Amit Shah on the imposition of Hindi language.

Party president MK Stalin apprised the media at Tamil Nadu district headquarter. He said that the party will protest in all the districts of the state from 10 am on September 20. He also invited like-minded parties to join him in the protest. The leader said that a top-level committee was set up by the party that took the decision.
On the eve of Hindi Diwas (September 14), Amit Shah had called for the encouragement of Hindi language. The leader urged the nation to increase the use of their own mother tongue along with Hindi. Amit Shah also said that Hindi language is the tool that has the potential to unify the nation. He iterated “Today, on the occasion of Hindi Day, I appeal to all the citizens of the country that we should increase the use of our mother tongue and also use the Hindi language as one language to realize the dreams of Bapu and iron man Sardar Patel. Happy Hindi Day.”

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju also urged the people to make Hindi as the language of the entire country.
Responding to this, many leaders of the nation come out in opposition to the minister’s remarks. They said that the saffron party is trying to impose its ideology on the nation. BJP leader and Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, however, took a different stand. He said that the official languages of the nation are all equal in sense and his people will not compromise on the status of Kannada language. BS Yeddyurappa, as quoted by ANI, said “All official languages in our country are equal. However, as far as Karnataka is concerned, Kannada is the principal language. We will never compromise its importance and are committed to promoting Kannada and our state’s culture.”
Tamil Nadu actor and politician Kamal Hassan (Makkal Needhi Maiam party leader) also said that the battle for the imposition of Hindi might even lead to a bigger battle than “Jalikattu“. He said that no one can revert back on the promise of the unity of India, be it any Shah or Sultan.
