Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) President Raj Thackeray will meet Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora today. In the meeting, that is slated to take place in Delhi, MNS Chief is likely to raise the issue related to EVMs.

Opposition parties, including the Congress, had time and again raised questions and doubts over EVMs and claimed that they can tamper, and can give advantage to incumbent BJP government.

It should be noted that MNS did not contest the national polls. However, Raj Thackeray interesting had held several rallies in Maharashtra in April. Thackeray in his rallies had attacked Bharatiya Janata Party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He in his rallies openly asked people not to vote for BJP in the national elections.

Poll Commission, in a run-up to the national polls, has sought the details of the expenditure of the MNS Rallies.

A few days ago, Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi slammed the Congress and Opposition parties for raising doubts and questions over EVMs days after the BJP stormed back to power with a landslide margin in the recently held polls. Speaking to media, Union Minister said that the Grand Old party should rather introspect and deliberate upon the reasons of crushing defeat.

Calling the Congress and Opposition parties, an ‘EVM Vilaap Mandli’, BJP Leader said they were earlier pressing for VVPAT tallying and now looking for reasons after no mismatch was found’.

It should be noted that Opposition parties including Congress and TDP before the counting of the mega polls have demanded that VVPAT (Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail) slips should be counted before the commencement of counting of votes.

22 Opposition Parties further approached the Top Court and the Poll Commission demanding that at least 50% EVMs should be verified with VVPAT. However, the Supreme Court only allowed the tallying of only 5 VVPAT-EVM verification from each assembly segment.
