Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has accused the Modi government of mishandling the Kashmir issue. He said that the govenrment’s policy of handling Kashmir issue was not correct and that it was turning Kashmir into a weakness of India, rather than a strength. He also alleged the government of utilising Kashmir as a political assets.

While attending an event to celebrate the 94th birthday of DMK chief M Karunanidhi, Rahul said that he had well in advance warned the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley a few months back that they were mishandling the Kashmir issue and it will hit back with fire and rage. But Jaitley had dismissed Gandhi’s warning by saying that Kashmir is peaceful.

Responding back to the statement made by Rahul, Union minister for information and broadcasting M Venkaiah Naidu referred to a booklet released by the Congress on Sunday in Lucknow which depicted the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir as “India occupied Kashmir”. He said that people of India would never forgive Congress for making such statement. He further questioned that if Congress ultimately wanted to handover Kashmir to Pakistan and if this was the final solution they had in mind. He also asked that “Is it for this that hundreds of our brave soldiers have given up their lives over the years defending our sovereignty and territorial integrity?”

Over ruling Naidu’s statement, Rahul said that the opposition will unitedly fight and defeat the attempts of the BJP and the RSS to thrust one idea on a country that celebrates diversity. “We are not going to allow one single idea of the RSS -the bankrupt idea, to invade this country and we are going to fight the RSS together,” he said.
