The monsoon session will be starting from July 17, the day also being scheduled for the Presidential election. The parliament is facing logistic issues of holding both the events smoothly on the same day.

Apart from this, the BJP-led NDA government is also gearing up to face the opposition parties also. It is likely that the session is going to be stormy, as the opposition parties are expected to raise various issues like Bengal riots, Jammu & Kashmir attacks, Sino-India border tensions, effects of GST and much more.

A day ahead of the session Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing the BJP MPs and a meeting for the NDA members is also scheduled for the day. BJP chief Amit Shah and senior-most Union ministers will also be holding discussions on how to deal with the issues raised by the opposition parties and get important bills passed.

The panel headed by BJP MP Bhupendra Yadav has reached out to all parties to build a consensus on most issues. The Opposition is likely to demand a discussion on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir and Bengal, Doklam issue with China and the impact of Goods and Services Tax. Trinamool Congress is also expected to talk about the protests in Darjeeling that is led by BJP ally GJM. Amarnath attacks and CBI raids on RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav are also likely to be in the list of topics to be raised by the opposition.

Other than this, during the session, the government is also hoping to get a number of bills passed by the Parliament, including Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill; Whistle blowers’ Protection Bill; Citizenship (Amendment) Bill; Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill; Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill; Enemy Property (Amendment) Bill; Consumer Protection Bill; and Companies (Amendment) Bill.

The Constitution (123rd Amendment) Bill, 2017, to grant the National Commission on Backward Classes constitutional status is likely to be passed by the Rajya Sabha this session. The bill has already been passed by the Lok Sabha and is with the select committee of Rajya Sabha.
