Monsoon session: RS adjourned thrice following the protest of Congress

Both the Houses met for the proceedings of the day at 11 a.m. on Friday, Though Lok Sabha functioned smoothly, Rajya Sabha had to be adjourned thrice following the ruckus created by Congress over the resignation of 3 Gujarat MLAs from the party.

The proceedings in Rajya Sabha begins with Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi reading the schedule listed for the business to be attended by the house during the next week. Taking into account the length of the list Deputy Chairperson remarks if the list of business was for the next week or the entire session.

Following this Anand Sharma raises Point of Order, accusing that Congress MLAs in Gujarat are being abducted, which triggers protest from BJP MLAs and the Chair says that it is not a point of order and that Sharma should contact the Election commission regarding this. Supporting Sharma, Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad questions that how can the MLAs immediately get the ticket to contend the Rajya Sabha Elections after just a day of joining the party.

The session was adjourned for 10 minutes after the protest on Congress MLAs resignation. When the House reconvened, Anand Sharma continues with the protest and Congress starts with sloganeering, after which the House was adjourned till noon.

The House was again adjourned till 2:30 p.m. for the third time in the day after it assumed proceedings after 12: oo as Congress continued with its protest.
