While addressing the Lok Sabha session on Wednesday also marking the 75th anniversary of the Quit India movement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged the people to unite together to create the India that the freedom fighters would be proud of. He also asked the citizens of India to take a pledge to free the country of problems like communalism, casteism and corruption and create a ‘new India’ by 2022.

Counter attacking the speech of the Prime Minister, Congress President Sonia Gandhi said that the freedom of speech and secularism of the nation is in danger. “Today, it looks that divisive and communal sentiments are rising across the country, and secularism and free speech are in danger. Law and order forces have also not been able to control the communal forces,” she said.

Further taking a dig at the RSS and BJP she said that questions are being raised if the democracy of India is once again in danger and whether forces of darkness are again raising their head? She added that “there is politics of divide. Freedom of expression, civil justice are taking a back seat. We can’t and we won’t allow sectarian forces to succeed.”

She also indirectly pointed out at RSS saying that the fact that few organisations were against the Quit India movement that time also should not be ignored.
