Lok Sabha loses two more members before the no-confidence motion is to be taken up in the Lower House. The total strength of Lok Sabha is now 533 after two more members resigned.

A former member of Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Baijayant Jay Panda resigned from his Lok Sabha membership which was admitted by the Speaker Sumitra Mahajan. He faced suspension from the Party in January earlier this year on the grounds of alleged “anti-party activities”.

Panda resorted to Twitter to share the news, he tweeted,

“As Parliament’s monsoon session begins, I say adieu, after 18 yrs, 3 months, 2 wks & 1 day

Met Hon’ Speaker y’day & said I cannot represent my former party anymore, it has strayed too far from its original principles & so, requested her to accept my resignation from Lok Sabha.”

The other Member of Parliament who resigned from the Lower House was Jose K Mani of the Kerala Congress (M). He was nominated to the Upper House.

Ten seats were already vacant before. Now after two more vacancies, the majority mark stands at 266.

Mahajan yesterday accepted the no-confidence motion against the BJP led-NDA government. It is to be taken up on Friday when BJP will have to prove majority in the Lower House. As BJP already has majority thus the opposition parties motive can be to prove the citizens reducing ‘confidence’ against the ruling party.
