Bhartiya Janta Party Former President and Outgoing MP from UP’s Kanpur Murli Manohar Joshi has been asked by his party not to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls 2019. The development came days after Bhartiya Janta Party in its first list of replaced LK Advani with Amit Shah from Gandhinagar (Gujarat) Lok Sabha Seat.

The Office of the Kanpur MP has confirmed that he has been asked to opt out from Lok Sabha Poll race. In his three line message which he has issued for the voters of Kanpur, Joshi has confirmed the seat.

Dear voters of Kanpur, Shri Ramlal General Secretary (Org), Bharatiya Janata Party conveyed to me today that I should not contest the ensuing parliamentary election from Kanpur and elsewhere,” Joshi said in his letter to voters.

Joshi had in 2014 General Elections defeated Congress’ Candidate and Former Union Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal with over 2.5 lakh Votes. Earlier in 2009 Lok Sabha Polls, he had won from Varanasi Lok Sabha Seat but have to vacate the seat for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Those familiar with the development within the party claimed that the decision not to give tickets is aimed at paving the way for young Leaders.

Earlier, MM Joshi and LK Advani’s name were missing from the party’s star campaigners list of Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming Lok Sabha Polls 2019.

The Bhartiya Janta Party in a run-up to the general elections has not given tickets to MPs having 80+ years of age and that includes, BC Khanduri, Kariya Munda, Kalraj Mishra, Bijoya Chakravarty and LK Advani.

General Elections are slated for April-May this year that would spread on Seven Phases starting from April 11 to May 19. Election Commission had on Sunday declared schedule for General Elections 2019.

Results for the crucial Lok Sabha Polls will be announced on May 23 four days after the 7th phase of voting.
