Nagaland governor P B Acharya met the NDPP leader Neiphiu Rio asking him to form the government as he has a clear majority.  The NDPP leader claimed he has the support of 32 MLAs in the 60-member Assembly. Governor P B Acharya asked the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and the BJP-Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party to prove their majority. The Governor also asked Rio to submit the supporting signatures of all the 32 MLAs by Monday.

A senior leader of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), an ally of the BJP, said Rio, in his meeting with the Governor, staked claim to form the government in Nagaland saying he has the support of 32 MLAs.

After the meeting, Acharya said that Rio has the majority and should form the government. The NDPP and the BJP have won 18 and 12 seats respectively. On the other hand, the lone JD(U) MLA G Kaito Aye and Independent legislator Tongpang Ozukum backed the alliance.

Around noon, the three-time CM and former Lok Sabha member, Neiphiu Rio, and his team met the Governor with a list of 32 MLAs. A 16-member NPF team led by Mr. Zeliang, too, met the Governor.

Rio along with the NDPP president Chingwang Konyak, BJP state president Visasolie Lhoungu, the JD(U) MLA and the Independent legislator, met the governor.
