Najeeb Jung, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, has resigned from his post with immediate affect. The announcement came in form of a statement issued by Raj Bhawan in Delhi. The statement further stated that Mr Jung will be returning to his main profession, Academics.

The brief statement, also had a thank you note to the Prime Minister and the people of Delhi. The statement stated Lt. Governor’s heartfelt thanks to the people of Delhi is showing affection and supporting him while the president rule in Delhi for over a year, which in his words helped in running the state smoothly.

Najeeb Jung, an IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre and former vice chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi did not mention a reason of him stepping down from the post.

In the list of people to thank, he also mentioned Arvind Kejriwal, with who he always had differences in terms of running the administrative works on the national capital. The ministry of Home affairs held a meeting to decide whether to give him additional charges or to appoint a new Lieutenant Governor for Delhi.

Tweeting on the development, Arvind Kejriwal tweeted to say that he was surprised on the move and wished luck to Najeeb Jung for his future endeavors.
