Prime Minister Narendra Modi met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after the oath ceremony of the 14th President of India.

Ram Nath Kovind swore in as the President of India on Tuesday at the Central Hall at the Parliament under the under the administration of Chief Justice J.S. Khehar. The ceremony wrapped up at around 12.36 pm. After the ceremony ended, Narendra Modi walked up to Mamta Banerjee, who was seated two rows behind the PM and held a conversation with her for few minutes.

Modi and Mamata talked about the prevailing flood like situations in West Bengal and Gujarat. They also discussed about the unrest going on in Darjeeling from past more than a month regarding the demand for a separate Gorkhaland. Modi advised Mamata to meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss about the problems.

The exchange between the two leaders came at a time when Mamata has been accusing the Centre of not cooperating with the state and Trinamool and BJP cadres in West Bengal are engaged in a bitter turf war as BJP seeks to expand its footprint in Bengal.
