BJP parliamentary party meeting was held on Thursday, all party MPs including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and senior leader LK Advani were present for the meeting.

The meeting began with Narendra Modi congratulating Amit Shah for his victory in Gujarat Rajya Sabha Polls, but Modi was once again seen disappointed with his MPs. He expressed his anger saying that the party has to repeatedly issue whip for the MPs to be present during the proceedings of the House. He added that despite repeated warnings MPs do not seem to take it seriously as many of them were still absent during the proceeding. He said that “You and I are nothing without the party. Only if the party exists our existence matter we are nothing without the party.” Further showing his disappointment Modi said, “do as you please I will see it in 2019.”

In strict words, Modi gave a clear message to the MPs that their presence in the House would form the basis of their candidacy in 2019. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also angry with the rhetoric performed by MPs. He said that

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also angry with the rhetoric performed by MPs. He said that in spite of warning everyone not to give any statement in front of the media, few MPs are saying things which later create problems for the party. This disobedience will not be tolerated at all he said. Speaking about the Gujarat Rajya Sabha elections Modi said that now the party President is also a member of the House and hence the days of merry making are over now. He further added that as it is BJP does not have the majority in the house and adding to it the absence of the MPs further weakens the party’s position.

On 31 July, due to the absence of BJP MPs in the Rajya Sabha, the resolution of the Opposition had passed in the voting on the amendment proposal to give the OBC commissions constitutional status. Therefore Modi was all the more angry at the absence of the MPs.

In his first address after becoming the member of the Rajya Sabha Amit Shah first thanked everybody for their support and then said that now the party will emerge even stronger in the house.
