As the election campaigns begin in Gujarat for the assembly election due in December this year, BJP President Amit Shah has decided strategies to win the polls by getting 150+ seats in the state. To get the target, BJP is all geared up and is using their biggest strength, Narendra Modi for the campaign.

Party President Amit Shah, held meetings in the state to give instructions and decide strategies for the campaign. A senior leader in his statement to PTI said that they will be using the mantra of Narendra Modi’s brand “that works beyond caste and class” for the campaign.

Ahead of the campaign, which begins on 9 July, Amit Shah is expected to spend three more days in Ahmedabad to finalise the best candidates for the elections and deciding on plans to win the polls. He has instructed his party workers of eight districts of central Gujarat to reach out to every single elector and convince them to vote for BJP. He said that the best gift they can give to Narendra Modi for all that he has done for the state is by giving him a total win of 150+ seats in Gujarat. “The elections will entirely be fought on Narendra Modi’s brand value. His work for the State and the country and the way he has uplifted the image of Gujarat and India abroad will be a huge factor for canvassing votes this time,” said a senior BJP leader.

Responding to the preparation for the election campaign, Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil said that Gujarat people are taking Congress seriously and this could be seen in the results of the Zila Parishad elections of 2015, where the party won 23 seats out of 31. He further added that the promises made by BJP in the previous election campaign, in regards with housing and recruitment were still not fulfilled. He also said that People voted for Modi that time but they will not vote for Rupani or Vaghani now. As seen in the past people voted for BJP candidates at the state while UPA was at rule at the centre, so the vice-versa is very much possible that people now vote for a Congress candidate at the centre, while NDA is ruling at the Centre.

Contradicting the views of Congress leader, BJP, however, is still confident about the win in the state saying that situations have improved a lot and people are again favouring BJP, since the Zila Parishad election of 2015. The party feels that Modi has won over the hearts of the people as it could be seen during the energy and enthusiasm shown by the people in the rallies of Modi. A BJP member said that since the party’s consecutive win in other states like UP, it has more chances of winning in Gujarat also. Congress might have the support of the rural areas but ultimately the result of the elections depends on the mood and mind frame of the voters and BJP has more possibilities of winning the General election due this year.
