The NCP breaking alliance with Congress ahead of the assembly elections in Gujarat comes as a second blow to the party after facing outburst from the PAAS.

Congress, who is thriving hard to nail the victory this time in Gujarat and end its political exile of 22 years, had released its first list of candidates on Sunday night. Following the release of the list, PAAS members came onto the roads protesting against the party for distribution of tickets. However, not to upset the Patidars in any way, the Congress made alterations to the list on Monday and paved way for the PAAS.

After the PAAS, Congress is now facing differences with the NCP also, who has been in alliance with the party for last two times. NCP and Congress have been fighting the last two assembly elections in Gujarat in alliance and currently, two NCP members hold seats in the assembly.

The NCP leader alleged that the Congress was not serious about the alliance with NCP. NCP leader Praful Patel in his statement to the press said that “We wanted to contest in Gujarat in alliance with the Congress and had talks with them initially, We wanted to contest in Gujarat in alliance with the Congress and had talks with them initially.”

The Nationalist Congress Party on Monday announced that since the Congress is not serious about the alliance, the party will contest the polls alone. NCP also claimed that the party will do even better without the Congress.

NCP had earlier made an official announcement of its alliance on 18 November, but after the talks between the two parties failed over seat sharing, it decided to break the alliance and fight the Gujarat assembly elections alone.

Praful Patel said that “We had been in talks with Congress for a long time. The environment created by the BJP in Gujarat is not good and we thought we will be stronger if we fought against it together. But the Congress never replied to us officially. Moreover, they have announced candidates at places the NCP already has candidates. We will surely do better by going solo.”
