Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday wrote a letter to Union Parliamentary Minister Pralhad Joshi and raised many issues including a nation-wide debate on the proposed idea of – One Nation, One Election. In his letter, Pawar mentioned a total of 5 points including the need for increasing the productivity of the Parliament.

‘The Honourable Prime Minister has to take initiative in improving the productivity of the Parliament. His presence and participation is necessary. Ministers should take their parl iament work seriously. The opposition should be given more time for discussions’, Pawar said in the letter stressing upon the productivity of the parliament.

Talking about the proposed idea about ‘One Nation, One Election’, Sharad Pawar demanded a nation-wide debate on the same.

He said, ‘The idea of One country One election is a good idea but there are many political problems in implementing this. After 1957 Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha have been dissolved before completion of their terms. There is political pluralism in India. Many political parties have emerged in the different parts of the country which creates problems One country One election. For One country One election. we have to make constitutional amendment. Therefore. our party proposes national debate on this question’.

He further said that ‘Celebrating 75th year Of independence. we should identify 75 poorest villages representing all States and Union territories and develop them as model villages as per international standards. These 75 villages should be connected to their respective capitals by special roads’.

Talking about the 150th Birthday Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Pawar said, ‘Celebration of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th Birthday is very important. We should select 150 best schools from all pans of the country to conduct entertaining colourful programmes to educate children about Mahatma Gandhi’s role during the freedom struggle and his relevance today’.

‘Suggestions and inputs on behalf of (NCP) with regard to the working of the Parliament to improve the productivity have been sent to the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs’, NCP Boss Pawar said in a tweet.

Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule of NCP later in the day also attended the meeting of all-party chiefs called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
